Just a short walk from Coaley Peak viewpoint lies Nympsfield Long Barrow, a Neolithic chambered tomb dating from around 2800 BC. When excavated, it contained the remains of around 23 individuals along with pottery and animal bones. The tomb was originally covered by a mound of earth and stone nearly 30 metres long. Today the stone chambers are exposed and freely accessible. Nearby Hetty Pegler's Tump, another long barrow, can also be explored with a torch. These monuments predate Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids.

Today the stone chambers are exposed and freely accessible.
