Painswick Rococo Garden

The Painswick Rococo Garden is a unique survivor from the 1740s, a period when garden design was moving away from formal symmetry towards more playful, naturalistic styles. The garden was created for Benjamin Hyett and features winding paths, Gothic follies, a maze, and dramatic views down a steep coombe. It fell into neglect for over a century before being rediscovered and restored from the 1980s using a painting by Thomas Robins as the guide. In February, the garden is famous for its display of over a million snowdrops, drawing visitors from across the country.
