Stanway House, a magnificent Jacobean manor, is home to the tallest gravity-fed fountain in the world. Rising to 300 feet, the fountain is powered entirely by a natural water supply from the hills above — no pumps needed. The estate has been in the same extended family since 1533, when it was leased to Richard Tracy; the Tracys acquired the freehold in 1590 and the house passed to the Earls of Wemyss by marriage in 1771. Its gatehouse is considered one of the finest in England, and the tithe barn dates from the 14th century. The cricket ground in the grounds is one of the most scenic in the country.
